Had most of them scams pulled on me but luckily I was clever enough to look up scams on the internet before I arrived. Beijing was worst, so many Tea-House girls. Also met some English guy who did the Tea house scam, haha. The thing was he was so naive he thought she was genuine even after I pointed out to him that it was a scammer. He was rich and I guess he thought 500 yuan for a tea party was fine.. She also gave him a gift of tea... hahaha what a sucker

I went to Tiananmen square, too, and got approached at least 15 times by random women. The best thing to do is, when they talk to you, just don't talk back, say something in non-english. This easily gets rid of them. When I was in Shanghai, around The Bund, they are even more relentless. The best thing to do in Shanghai, I found, was to stick your camera phone in front of their faces, and this gets rid of people very quickly.

Back in May when we were in Beijing, we were walking in the tian'an men square area one night. My mom and I were talking and my husband was walking by himself in front of us (not very far away from us). Two girls suddenly walked up to him and started chatting with him in English. When I saw that, I immediately realized that they were either prostitutes or scam girls, so I walked up to them and talked to them in Chinese. They immediately ran away...

there are lots of scams all around the world. i got caught out in Beijing with the bike rickshaw scam. they say 3 yuan to take you to tianamen square in broken English. they stop in some alley near to place where there are other rickshaw and demand 300.i I warned other after that whenever i saw the gangs asking foreigners to go with them as they are " cheaper than taxi" be alert and talk to people who have been there longer than you or been before. stay safe.

I was nearly sucked into a scam like this myself in Shanghai. It was July 1st, 2010 start of the school holidays and was approached by a mixed group of male and female students on holiday, just as I had traveled with on train to Shanghai. They wanted to go to a "Government" display of ethnic arts. Just a block across from the Bund, they wanted to go into a nondescript building. Instantly then I knew it was bad, because all Government displays are OTT with banners and signs, never a blank wall.
